The council is pleased to confirm that works to address cliff stability issues at Cliff Parade have now been successfully completed, and Seaview Road has been reopened to traffic.
The project was completed by working closely with Natural England, a specialist ecologist, and highways contractor Marlborough Highways Ltd. Every step was undertaken with the utmost care, under the full supervision of Natural England and specialist ecologist, to ensure both safety and environmental protection throughout this sensitive operation.
Initial excavations, carried out in early November with full approval from Natural England, confirmed there were no badgers in the two main areas where repairs were needed. Protective measures were installed to prevent future issues with the badger's sett, and all work was undertaken with a commitment to ensuring the safety and preservation of the badgers.
With the works now complete, the lane closure and temporary traffic lights have been removed, and the road is fully reopened to traffic.
Cllr Daniel Cowan, leader of the council, said: "These works were vital to addressing long-standing concerns about the cliffs in this area, and I want to acknowledge how challenging the delays and disruption have been for residents. I'm incredibly grateful for the expertise and hard work of everyone involved, as well as the great partnership working that made this project possible. The reopening of Seaview Road is an important step forward, and I hope it provides reassurance to those who have been affected."

The council will complete additional works to replace the broken boundary timber fence before Christmas.
